BBA news: Maneta mentioned The Man She claims to be dating
BIG Brother Africa star Maneta has inadvertently let slip the name of a Harare businessman whom she claims to be dating – prompting limp denials from her lover.
The 21-year-old Bulawayo lass – who has rejected advances from compatriot Roki in the M-Net TV show – has told housemates she can’t wait to be re-united with Wicknell Chivayo.
Chivayo, a bulky Harare businessman with interests in the transport sector, is a well-known Harare socialite who has had a brush with the law.
He took to Facebook to deny he was Maneta’s boyfriend, but curiously did not discount the possibility.
“All I can say is I’m not in love with Maneta at this stage to be precise. Who knows what the future holds? I also think she looks EXTREMELY ATTRACTIVE and I like the light skin,” he wrote.
Maneta’s outing of Chivayo finally solves a mystery that has befuddled the TV show’s viewers since the first week when she was involved in an amazing row with her sister, Teclar.
The two women rowed in front of other housemates after Maneta accused her sister of “snipering” her boyfriend.
Maneta said Teclar and the unnamed boyfriend – at the time – had “started going on dates and picking each other up” behind her back.
Teclar protested: “I did not take that guy from you, and I did not sniper him. Why would you think that about your sister?”
Maneta’s elder sister – who was evicted from the show after just seven days – went on to explain how Chivayo had invited her to his house.
“The guy has his stuff, he has so much stuff,” she explained. “He said ‘I want you to tell your young sister the things that I have’. I even took pictures and I said ‘look at your husband’s stuff’.
“He said I was a nice person to talk to. He took me places. He is vain like that, he likes to be seen with good women and so on.”
Teclar then advised Maneta: “Get him, he’s still there.”
The younger sister replied: “After all your dates?”
Teclar then launched into an amazing rant, revealing how Maneta barely knew her since she left Bulawayo to live in Harare in 1998.
“Honestly, I swear when I leave this house, I’m going to destroy your relationship. I’m going after your guy,” Teclar threatened.
Unconvinced, Maneta shot back: “Good luck, he doesn’t date your type.”
Teclar also revealed during the exchange that Maneta was yet to bed her supposed boyfriend.
“That’s not her boyfriend, she is lying. A boyfriend is somebody you have said ‘yes’ to, somebody that you are sleeping with and so on. The guy she is referring to, I won’t mention names, it’s just somebody that said they liked her.”
The 31-year-old Chivayo – known by friends as B.I.G. because of his hefty frame – was arrested in March last year over an alleged R2 million swindle.
Prosecutors say he came up with an elaborate scheme in which he registered shelf companies in South Africa and created dozens of fake company websites before misrepresenting himself as a broker trying to facilitate business between legitimate companies in Zimbabwe and his briefcase operations.
Several companies and individuals transferred money to accounts in South Africa for the supply of certain goods – including mining equipment and vehicle spares – but Chivayo allegedly withdrew the money and vanished.
He is yet to be tried.
